📜 The Story of Holi: Victory of Devotion
Holi celebrates the triumph of Dharma (righteousness) over Adharma (evil). The legend traces back to the demon king Hiranyakashipu, who demanded to be worshipped as a God.
His son, Prahlad, remained a devoted follower of Lord Vishnu, much to his father’s rage. After many failed attempts to kill Prahlad, the King turned to his sister, Holika, who possessed a divine shawl that protected her from fire.
Holika sat in a roaring bonfire with Prahlad on her lap, intending to burn him alive. However, due to Prahlad’s unwavering faith, the shawl flew from Holika and covered Prahlad instead. Holika was reduced to ashes, while Prahlad emerged untouched. This “burning of Holika” is why we light bonfires today to symbolize the destruction of ego and evil.
