Subject: Growing Linguistic Intolerance in Our Country
Sir/Madam,
I am Ruchi/Ravi, a concerned citizen, writing this letter to draw attention to the alarming rise of linguistic intolerance in our country. India is known for its rich cultural and linguistic diversity. Our Constitution recognizes several languages and guarantees every citizen the freedom to speak and express themselves in the language of their choice. However, recent incidents suggest that this spirit of unity in diversity is gradually weakening.
In many parts of the country, people are being judged, discriminated against, or even harassed because of the language they speak. Migrant workers, students, and professionals often face hostility for not knowing the regional language. Such behavior not only creates fear and division but also threatens national harmony. Language should be a means of communication and cultural exchange, not a tool for exclusion or dominance.
Linguistic intolerance undermines the idea of India as one nation. It discourages mobility, affects employment opportunities, and creates unnecessary social tensions. Respect for all languages is essential for peaceful coexistence. Promoting one language at the cost of others goes against democratic values and weakens social unity.
I request the government, educational institutions, and civil society to promote mutual respect and awareness about linguistic diversity. Schools should teach students the value of tolerance, and strict action should be taken against acts of discrimination. The media also has a vital role in spreading the message of unity and respect.
I hope your esteemed newspaper will highlight this issue and help create awareness among the masses.
Yours sincerely,
Ruchi/Ravi
